BBC Sports presenter Alex Scott has taken to Instagram to reveal that she has been sent a Christmas card from a secret admirer. The sportswoman, 37, showcased the Arsenal-themed card, which she guessed was from a Spurs fan, who had written that “opposites attract”, before adding that it would be “great to get in touch” with the star.
Who is Jay? You need to give me more
In view of her 658,000 followers, the former Arsenal player addressed her mystery card in her Instagram Stories.
Alex said: “I have just received my first Christmas card, I’m going to show you all.
“I just got it right now, look at this, from my number one fan,” Alex said, while panning the camera to face the large Arsenal Christmas card.
The card featured an Arsenal shirt with “Scott No.1 Fan” on it, as well as saying “Have a Merry Christmas”.
Going on, Alex continued: “I’m going to show you some more though, because I don’t know who this one is from!”
Revealing the inside of the card, Alex told how the festive message was from a long-time fan.
The message read: “I’m not a gunners fan at all but I know we’d have a cracking date.
“They say opposites attract right…? (Gues the team).”(sic)
It went on: “Alex, I know this is off the cuff and very spontaneous but I’ve followed you for a while and tried to get in touch ages ago through an Alita Wallis to speak to you back in April.
“It would be great to get in touch.”
Alex’s secret admirer went on to gush over the former footballer.
They wrote: “Keep doing you and never, ever change being you.
“Anyone that says otherwise does not deserve your time.
“Haters are haters and they are just nobodies behind a keyboard with no cultural intelligence or ignorant understanding of anything.
“Believe me, I understand,” they reassured The One Show presenter.
It continued: “You’re a fantastic sportswoman that will continue to be successful.
“And all jokes aside whilst I won’t expect you to get in touch with me personally/ privately, I just wanted to wish you a lovely Christmas.
“I hope that I can follow in your success after seeking a new role myself in 2022, Jay,” the secret admirer signed off.
Addressing the contents of the card, Alex said: “Ok, so here we are… ‘They say opposites attract right?’ So you must be a Spurs fan,” the star mused.
“There’s all the details, I don’t know if you can read that, but basically I’ve read it all, but Jay, that’s all I get.
“Who is Jay? You need to give me more,” the broadcaster said.
Panning to the opposite side of the card, Alex revealed that Jay had written her another note.
The second message read: “P.s. I probably wouldn’t say I was your number one fan at all as I don’t know you (and it was the only Gunners card I could get without saying happy birthday on it!) but I think you’re a right legend anyways.” (sic)
Bursting into laughter, Alex said: “Pretty impressive card that one, look,” she said while giving her fans a glimpse of the front.
Ending the clip on her Stories, Alex said: “So, Jay, I don’t know what Jay I’m talking to right now but Jay, if this was you thank you for my card and the effort put into it.
“I’ve read it, my first one, thank you my fan, but not my number one fan,” Alex added.
