Virgin Radio DJ Chris Evans, 55, was awkwardly snubbed on-air by one of his musical guests today. The presenter was expecting to welcome a member of the Plastic Ono Band, a rock band formed by John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969 for their collaborative and solo projects, onto the radio station.

It comes as the Beatles star’s 1970 debut solo album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, is set to be rereleased in an Ultimate Collection box set.

Yoko Ono Lennon will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic record with the release of the eight-disc super deluxe box set, which will be available to buy from this Friday.

However, Chris was left having to explain his guest’s absence on-air to his listeners after the musician didn’t answer his phone for the interview.

The star said: “So, we were going to have another guest on now and it was going to be a guy who worked very closely…

“Was he in the Plastic Ono Band? I think he was, wasn’t he?

“He was in the Plastic Ono Band, he was in Manfred Mann.”

Explaining the issue, Chris added: “He was going to be on to talk about this new sort of celebration, limited edition, boxset of John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band.

“But he’s not picking up.”

Fortunately, Chris handled the situation like a pro and swiftly moved on following the snub.

While proceeding to the next section of his show, the star quipped: “But his loss is our gain.”

It comes after Chris set the record straight on another seemingly awkward moment between him and one of his co-hosts this week.

The broadcaster reassured his loyal listeners that his “banter” with his colleague and long-time pal Vassos Alexander is not in any way mean-spirited.

He addressed the situation after his wife Tash worried the pair weren’t getting along due to their disagreements and sly comments on-air, but the radio DJ insisted it was all a joke and that the two are closer than ever.

Discussing the next step of Boris Johnson‘s roadmap to lockdown ending, which is being able to meet five friends as of May 17, Chris and Vassos got into a funny exchange.

“Being in a pub with five friends in 25 days!” Chris exclaimed before turning his attention to his pal.

“Five friends… actual friends,” he joked.

Vassos turned his nose up, hitting back: “Friends, not colleagues.”

Before they continued to bicker, Chris quickly confirmed they were indeed joking, saying: “The thing is that banter between Vassos and I on the air is just banter.

“All the time my wife doesn’t believe us – ‘Why are you two not getting on?'” he recalled Tash asking him.

“It’s just a joke? It’s fun! The boss loves it!”
