Emma Raducanu, 18, has admitted her knee “re-bleeds” every time she bends it after the tennis champion suffered a painful injury during her triumph in the US Open final. The star gave fans an update on her graze, which she sustained during a slide on the hard court of Flushing Meadows, while speaking to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2 this morning.
It came after one of Zoe’s listeners shared their concern for Emma, asking if her knee was “healing up nicely”.
Responding to the question, Emma revealed: “Yeah, my knee, what a moment!
“I actually saw that on replay, the slide looked pretty cool, I was really impressed by myself there.”
Unfortunately, the stunning move on the court came at a price for Emma, who was left needing medical attention while leading 5-3 in the second set.
The British champion continued: “But my knee, it’s still open, and it’s still bleeding.
“Like, when I bend my knee, it re-bleeds, yeah.”
Wincing at the thought of Emma’s injury, Zoe exclaimed: “Ouch! We’re all feeling that!”
Emma suffered the graze while competing against Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the final last weekend while sliding for a return.
She required a Medical Time Out due to her knee, which was visibly bleeding.
Emma was given three minutes to recover, with the medic cleaning her wound and applying a bandage.
The star went on to achieve a record-breaking victory in the US Open final, winning in two sets, 6-4 6-3.
Emma’s victory made her the first ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam.

After her sensational win, Emma said: “First of all, I really want to congratulate Leylah and her team, she played some incredible tennis and has beaten some of the top players in the world.
“The level was extremely high and I hope we play each other in many more tournaments and hopefully finals.
“As for this three weeks in New York, I would say having such a supportive team, the LTA my agent, and everyone back home watching on TV, thank you so much for your support over the years.
“Thank you for making me feel so at home from my first qualifying match, you have spurred me on in some difficult moments and I hope me and Leylah put on a good match today.”
Emma recently celebrated her win at the Met Gala in New York, where she met one of her sporting heroes, Lewis Hamilton.
Recalling their meeting, the star told BBC Breakfast: “I managed to go to some really cool events and places, at the Met Gala I spoke to Lewis Hamilton, which was really cool being such a fan of loads of sports, it was really nice to see him and speak to him there.
“The Met was such an artistic event with great performances and I was very honoured and grateful to have been able to go.”
Emma stunned in a monochrome co-ord as she stepped out at the event chaired by Vogue’s Anna Wintour.
