The United Nations has certified Grouplove as climate positive, making them the first U.S. band to achieve the honor.
The certification follows the band’s move to partner with Chooose, a company that offers subscriptions to reduce CO2, for their upcoming tour in support of their new album, Healer, released on Friday.
“Unlike our president, we trust in science and want to lower our carbon footprint,” Grouplove frontwoman Hannah Hooper told Rolling Stone. “We found Chooose to help us do this. We hope you are doing your part in taking care of our beautiful planet.”
The band has already postponed the tour due to the spread of COVID-19 but has pledged to reduce the carbon footprint when the tour takes place by staying in sustainable hotels, using reusable bottles, having vegetarian meals on their rider, and using in-house electricity. The band has also decided to book the shortest possible distance between hotels and venues.
Grouplove’s previous album was Big Mess in 2016.
