Over the weekend Eminem opened up on his sweet relationship with daughter Hailie, as he shared his pride in his 23-year-old.
Eminem – real name Marshall Mathers – shares Hailie with ex-wife Kimberly Scott and while he’s often kept his private life under wraps, over the years he’s shared some insight into his family.
The Godzilla rapper also has adopted daughter Whitney (who is Kim’s daughter from a previous relationship), and also cared for her niece’s daughter Alaina, whom he refers to as a daughter.
During a recent appearance on Mike Tyson’s Hot Boxin’ podcast, Em opened up about his life as a father which he tends to keep fairly private.
‘Hailie is 23, no babies, she has a boyfriend, but she’s doing good, she’s made me proud for sure, she’s graduated from college,’ Em told the retired boxer.
But what else has Eminem said about his daughter, who has shunned the spotlight, in the past?
Eminem has included Hailie in his songs.
Hailie is mentioned in more than 20 of Eminem’s songs, including aptly titled Hailie’s Song, My Dad’s Gone Crazy, Kim, 97 Bonnie & Clyde, Beautiful and My Darling.
Eminem admitted he regretted being so open about his family in his songs
Towards the end of Revival is the song Castle, in which he raps to his daughter that ‘this is your song’, he apologises for making his issues with her mum public.
He rapped: ‘I’ve said your name but always tried to hide your face. This game is crazy, I wanted to claim my love for you, but dang I never knew it’d be like this, if I did I wouldn’t have done it.
‘You ain’t asked for none of this s**t, now you’re being punished?
‘Things that should’ve been private with me and your mother is public. I can’t stomach, they can take this fame back, I don’t want it.’
We got a glimpse of Hailie in Eminem’s filmclip for Mockingbird
Little Hailie was seen as a youngster when home videos of her, captured by Eminem and family, were featured in the official music video for Mockingbird, released back in 1999.
Hailie broke her silence in 2018 about her dad
Hailie publicly spoke for the first time for an interview with Daily Mail in 2018, as she revealed her plans after graduating from Michigan State University and her relationship with her father.
On whether she sees her dad regularly she said: ‘Of course, we are very close.’
Eminem has long said Hailie was his main motivation
He said in a previous interview: ‘She has been my main source of drive and motivation, especially when she was first born.
‘I didn’t have a career yet, I didn’t have money, I didn’t have a place to live.
‘I think that kicked me in the a*** harder knowing, “How am I going to raise her?”
‘She’s always been the driving force for me to stay busy, stay focused, always been my number one reason for fear of failure.
‘I can’t fail. I can’t have her grow up and not be able to say, “My dad succeeded”.
‘I talk about her a lot, the truth is she is all I got in this world. If everything ended tomorrow, she’s all that I have.’
Hailie made her first appearance in Em’s songs as a baby, with her gurgling noises captured for controversial tune 97 Bonnie & Clyde
Eminem previously revealed that in order to lay down the gurgle noises you hear on 97 Bonnie & Clyde, he had to sneak a young Hailie, who was four when it was released, into the recording studio.
He told Rolling Stone: ‘I lied to Kim and told her I was taking Hailie to Chuck E Cheese that day.
‘But I took her to the studio. When she found out I used our daughter to write a song about killing her, she f***ing blew. We had just got back together for a couple of weeks. Then I played her the song, and she bugged the f**k out.’
In 2002 Hailie earned a Guinness World Record for her appearance in Slim’s song My Dad’s Gone Crazy.
After her appearance on the hook of My Dad’s Gone Crazy Hailie earned a Guinness World Record as the Youngest R & B Chart Entrant.
If you were wondering, she was six years and 210 days old when that song was released in 2002.
Eminem previously said of their collaboration: ‘That’s my little girl, you know she’s goofy too. One day we were in the studio doing a song and she was like, “Somebody help me, I think my dad’s gone crazy”.
‘I said, ‘Hailie, what did you say?” She said it again and then said, “Daddy I want to do it on the mic”. I said, “OK”. I got her in the booth.’
Hailie teamed up with Eminem on a Ja Rule diss track.
Back in 2003 Hailie appeared on Ja Rule diss track Hailie’s Revenge after the Livin’ It Up rapper slammed her mum Kim as a ‘known sl*t, what’s Hailie gon’ be when she grows up?’
After Eminem said he was going to shove his Oscar up ‘Ja Rule’s a***’ he sang out to his daughter: ‘Hailie, what do you want to be when you grow up, baby?’
She replied: ‘I don’t know, but I don’t want to grow up to be like Ja Rule’s little dirty-a*** kids.’
The 23-year-old remains close to both her parents.
In 2014, when Hailie graduated with honours from her school in Michigan she thanked her parents.
She said of Kim and Em: ‘They have pushed me to be the person I am and have given me all the support to achieve what I have.’
