James Martin: ‘It leaves me scarred for life’ Saturday Morning chef in urgent plea to fans

Saturday Morning host James Martin, 47, presented his ITV show as usual last weekend, but became distracted by a red gnome as he did a piece to camera. He stopped his show to query why he had a group of gnomes in the garden and later urged viewers to stop sending them in.

I don’t like gnomes. It leaves me scarred for life!

After wrapping up a segment on his live show, he turned around to show viewers a group of gnomes in his garden.

He then said to the camera: “I don’t know why I’ve got these gnomes in here.

“Somebody wrote on social media that I like gnomes and now I get about three gnomes a month through the post.”

He then pleaded with fans: “Don’t send me anyone gnomes, I don’t like gnomes. It leaves me scarred for life!”

The chef is no stranger to a humorous on air moment.

Last month, James admitted he was “bricking it” as he took stern instructions from the late chef Michel Roux as they put together a seafood dish.

At one point during the segment, the chef asked Michel if he had put enough seaweed in a pan, to which the unimpressed chef simply replied: “More.”

His blunt response prompted the show’s guests to laugh, as James added: “I’m bricking it this side, I don’t know about you.”

He then showed the French chef his pan and asked: “Are you happy with that?”

“That’s it,” Michel replied.

Just weeks after his appearance on James’ show, the French chef died aged 79 last week.

James shared a moving tribute to Michel on his Instagram and Twitter pages.

The chef shared a picture of himself alongside his fellow chef with his followers.

His lengthy caption read: “Broken and so sad to let you know we have lost a legend and me a friend.

“Words cannot describe what this man did for me in my life… he taught, he listened, he advised and he strengthened every part of what I do.

“Michel I love you, always have and always will… take care my friend and I will see you soon.”

The late chef’s family released a statement regarding his death last week.

They said: “It is with deep sadness that the Roux family announces the passing of our beloved grandfather, father, brother and uncle, Michel Roux OBE.

“The family would like to thank everyone for their support during his illness. While many of you will share our great sense of loss, we request privacy for the family at this difficult time.

“We are grateful to have shared our lives with this extraordinary man and we’re so proud of all he’s achieved.”
