Kim Kardashian’s fans call star ‘very disappointing’ as she reveals donation to coronavirus pandemic

Kim Kardashian has split opinion with the donation she has made amid the coronavirus pandemic.

As millions take to self-isolating, certain celebrities have donated millions in an attempt to aid health workers and the crisis.

Among the caring stars is Kylie Jenner, Kim’s sister, who has donated $1million (around £840,000) to help provide medical staff in the US with masks and gear to protect themselves against the coronavirus.

The 22 year old makeup mogul donated the funding to her doctor Dr Thaïs Aliabadi, who helped deliver daughter Stormi.

Big sister Kim Kardashian decided to donate £1 million from her SKIMS shapewear brand to help mothers and their children during the pandemic, but not everyone was happy with the star’s decision.

Some have suggested Kim’s donation wasn’t big enough and others questioned why she had to re-launch and sell products to give the donation.

The 39-year-old took to Instagram to announce she’d restock her underwear line to help bring people relief amid the deadly outbreak.

Posting to her 164 million followers, Kim wrote: “To support Mothers and Children in need during this time, I’m proud to announce @SKIMS is committed to donating $1M to families affected by COVID-19.”

She continued: “On Monday, we will restock the collection we first launched with, and in doing so, be able to help bring relief to those affected by this pandemic. Shop the Solutionwear restock on March 30 at 9AM PST / 12PM EST.”

Model Winnie Harlow was quick to praise Kim, who shared a picture of herself donning Skims surrounded by models, writing: “Amazing Kim.”

Yet others weren’t so convinced as Kim’s post garnered a whole host of comments from annoyed fans.

One wrote: “Kim you can donate, you are the one that has the money to do so. Stop trying to make a profit when you know a lot of people aren’t working at this time.”

Another said: “This really says a lot about you, the greed omg.” [sic]

A third person wrote: “Your net worth is 350 MILLION dollars. Are you serious? You’re trying to make a profit off a pandemic, that’s absolutely disgusting.”

Whilst a fourth penned: “So she’s only donating the money if people by her skims? I really like kim, but this is very disappointing.”

Other celebrities to have donated their funds to the outbreak include Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie. The star pledged $1 million to fight child hunger amid the ongoing pandemic.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mila Kunis, amongst others, have also made substantial donations to a fundraiser for frontline responders and Kanye West has made unspecified donations to We Women Empowered, which is based in his hometown of Chicago, as well as Los Angeles-based organisation, The Dream Centre.
