Matthew McConaughey accused of ‘white privilege’ over US election comments

Matthew McConaughey has been accused of ‘white privilege’ over his comments on Hollywood’s reaction to the US presidential election.

The Dallas Buyers Club actor appears on the latest episode of Russell Brand’s podcast, Under The Skin, to discuss Joe Biden’s victory and Donald Trump’s unfounded allegations of a rigged election.

Although he never aligned himself with either political party, Matthew called out the ‘illiberal left’ in Hollywood and accused them of hypocrisy by being outraged over Trump’s refusal to concede when they were in disbelief that he won the election in 2016.

‘There are a lot [of people] on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronise, and are arrogant towards the other 50%,’ Matthew told the comedian.

He continued: ‘I’m sure you saw it in our industry when Trump was voted in four years ago, they were in denial that was real. Some of them were in absolute denial.

‘[Now] it looks like Biden’s our guy. Now you’ve got the right that’s in denial, ’cause their side has fake news. And I understand, they’ve been fed fake news. No one knows what the hell to believe, right? So they’re putting down their last bastion of defence.’
