Arsenal fans have been given a glimmer of hope of seeing Lucas Torreira back in action before the end of the season.

The Gunners star was injured in the club's FA Cup win over Portsmouth on February 2 and was seen hobbling round in a protective boot.

When asked if Torreira's season was over Arteta said: “Well, I wouldn't like to rule him out.

“Lucas is really keen and wanting to play again this season.

“Whether that is realistic or not, we'll know again in the next two or three weeks.

“It depends on how the bone is healing, how he's doing in his rehab and at the moment we don't know anything for sure.”

Mikel Arteta says the Gunners have be careful and ready “to adapt” should the coronavirus force Arsenal to play behind closed doors.

Outbreak fears have already led to many sporting events being postponed or being played without fans.

And SunSport reports Wolves fans have been left devastated after the club confirmed their Europa League last-16 tie will be played behind closed doors.

Arteta said: “Well it looks like it's affecting more and more countries each time.

“Hopefully it won't affect us, but I don't know how realistic that is either.

“So we're just following what the governments are saying and what the club is saying and we just have to adapt to the situation.”

Mikel Arteta believes a top four finish is “possible” for Arsenal, but admits there's still “a long way to go”.

The Gunners are eight points behind their top four rivals Chelsea who are currently fourth in the league.

However the North Londoners also have a game in hand.

Arteta said: “It’s still a long way to go, we want to go game by game.

“Three weeks ago it was impossible, now it looks a little bit more possible, but still it depends on the results and our performances.”

Mikel Arteta says the Gunners hope Bukayo Saka will agree to a new deal with Arsenal.

Contract talks between the club and their teenage star are reported to be underway.

Saka, who is said to earn £3,000 a week, has become one of club's most promising young players.

The youngster has racked up three goals and eight assists in over 20 starts across all competitions this season.

And he's attracting attention from some of Europe's biggest teams with Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester United rumoured to be after his signature.

On Saka's contract talks Arteta said: “The club is doing what it has to do and is having conversations, and hopefully we’ll get it resolved.”

Alexandre Lacazette could start against Manchester City on Wednesday when the Gunners take on Pep Guardiola's team.

The French striker netted Arsenal's only goal during their 1-0 win against West Ham.

And Mikel Arteta praised the forward's “attitude”.

Arteta said: “The way he’s trying, the way he played even when he wasn’t scoring.

“He’s always at his best, training, his attitude is top. The same with the others so they all have a chance.”
