Aaron Judge out with ‘soreness’ as Yankees keep Gary Sanchez on bench

BALTIMORE — After leaving Tuesday’s win with what Aaron Boone called “lower body soreness,” Aaron Judge is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Orioles at Camden Yards.

Boone downplayed the unspecified injury and said he’d look to get him a day off, so Judge’s absence isn’t unexpected, but he’s already missed time with a sore side earlier this month.

The injuries haven’t impacted Judge much at the plate. He homered again in Tuesday’s win — one of three the Yankees hit in the victory.

Gary Sanchez also sat again Wednesday, a day after losing his starting job behind the plate to Kyle Higashioka. Sanchez’s struggles at the plate have continued from last year, while Higashioka’s four home runs on the season trail only Giancarlo Stanton and Judge. Six of Higashioka’s eight hits have gone for extra bases and he has earned praise from much of the pitching staff for his work defensively. On Tuesday, in addition to the home run, he helped Corey Kluber to his best start of the year, holding Baltimore to one run over 6 ⅔ innings.
