Apple’s iPad Pro set for another huge update, but there’s a big reason to buy one today

The iPad Pro is by far the best tablet Apple has ever made. In fact, it’s the best tablet on the market full stop. This powerful device was updated earlier this year with a speed boost and addition of a new dual-camera and LiDAR scanner, which is able to measure distances with greater accuracy.

This was a solid upgrade from Apple, but it seems things could be about to get even better for iPad fans with a recent rumour suggesting a future update to the iPad Pro will bring access to the latest 5G data speeds.

According to Apple leaker L0vetodream, the 2021 range of iPad Pros will get a Qualcomm X55 5G modem, which means owners will be able to download movies, files and music at speeds of over 300Mbps over a 5G network.

Although not confirmed, this update would make a lot of sense as Apple is also expected to reveal 5G-ready iPhones later this year. 5G is the future of mobile technology as it’s not only faster but also more reliable. The extra bandwidth it offers allows this network to cope with more people using at the same time so speeds shouldn’t plummet at busy train stations or people-packed stadiums.

The current range of iPads already feature access to 4G speeds via Apple’s in-built SIM so switching this to faster 5G would surely be a popular decision.

It’s unlikely that we will see this iPad update until next year, but if you fancy treating yourself to a new tablet right now then there are some tempting discounts.

UK retailer Currys PC World is selling the 2018 iPad Pro model at a vastly discounted rate. In fact, it’s one of the best deals we’ve seen.

The cut means you can pop the 1TB 12.9-inch model in your online basket for £1,1149 – that’s a saving of over £550. Along with the 12-inch model on sale, Currys has also cut the price of the 512GB 11-inch iPad Pro to £899 – saving £100. If you want to spread the cost, the retailer is also offering 12 months interest-free via its “buy now pay later” scheme.

Although the 2018-inch model doesn’t get the latest A12Z processor or dual-camera, users are still treated to a stunning edge-to-edge screen, supremely fast A12X Bionic brains, long battery life, and Face ID scanner.

This older machine is also fully compatible with the latest Magic Keyboard accessory which transforms your tablet into a mini laptop complete with a trackpad and extra charging port. You can read our full Magic Keyboard review here.
