BRITs 2021 crowd boos Lewis Capaldi amid foul-mouthed speech

Lewis Capaldi was booed after delivering a sweary rant on stage at the 2021 BRIT Awards.

Lewis appeared at the show to present the award for MasterCard British Album of the Year, which went to Dua Lipa.

He entered the stage only to tell the the audience applauding him to “shut up” several times before saying: “Hello motherf***ers”, as the producers desperately worked to mute his sound.

Going back to his script, Lewis told fans: "Sorry, I'm reading off a card here… how is everyone doing? It's great to be here tonight.

"It's just great to be out of the house to be honest.”

He was then muted again for a full 10 seconds leaving viewers at home completely nonplussed.

Lewis concluded by saying: “Let’s hope this year is even bigger and better than ever for British music," before he ill-advisedly added: "And obviously let's also hope Scotland win at the Euros.”

This comment prompted boos from the crowd which caused Lewis to hold up his cue card and shout: "I didn't f***ing write it!”

One fan quipped: “The poor person on the mute button during Peter Capaldi’s speech.”

“I love Lewis Capaldi. On stage for two seconds and 80% of his speech is muted. Legend”, praised another.

"ITV missing an f bomb from Lewis Capaldi then 80% of the rest being audio muted is so hilarious,” laughed a fourth.

A fifth joked: “Couple's Halloween costume idea: Lewis Capaldi and the Audio Muted graphic.”

However, many viewers at home found the muted audio irritating and took to Twitter to complain that it sounded like the celebrities were “underwater”.

One person said: “Audio muted like five times during Headie One’s performance, with weird background conversational noise dubbed in. It’s nearly 10pm. If you want to respect the art, you’ve gotta run it.”

“What is the watershed for?? If I see the audio muted box one more time….. #brits2021,” added a second.
