It’s clear that Meghan, Duchess of Sussex had a hard time navigating the royal family. People constantly gossiped about her while spreading lies and untruths.
However, for Meghan, the inability for her to defend herself was too much to bear. Now, amid Megxit, the duchess is free to live her life as a private citizen.
Though the criticism hasn’t stopped, Meghan has been able to soar. She recently shared one of her favorite quotes which proves why she’s able to remain unbothered.
Meghan Markle is committed to doing work that she is passionate about
With a new Netflix deal that will include a ton of socially conscious projects, speaking engagements, and the forthcoming launch of their brand, Archewell, the Sussexes are committed to doing good work.
“The couple and their work has not diminished since they stepped back as working royals, Town & Country reports. “Though there is a common refrain from critics on social media that they are less relevant or interesting now that they are no longer part of the royal machinery, that would seem at odds with the fact that they still generate as much debate and as many stories as they ever did.”
Meghan Markle has been the subject of criticism and ridicule
From the moment she married Prince Harry in May 2018, Meghan has been subjected to criticism and ridicule from royal fans, experts, and even some alleged palace insiders. She was called everything from “Me Gain” to “Duchess Difficult. “
When she tried to get vulnerable, expressing the fact that she was out of her element when it came to royal rules and regulations, she was chastised and told to suck it up. After enduring years of bullying, Meghan and Prince Harry decided that they’d had enough.
Now that they are no longer senior working royals, Meghan and Prince Harry have been able to respond to criticisms and untruths directly. No longer forced to consider royal guidelines, the duchess has hit the ground running speaking out about women’s rights, voting, and Black Lives Matter.
Meghan Markle’s favorite quote shows she’s not bothered by critics
While many people might have crumbled under the continued scrutiny that Meghan has endured, she’s learned how to use her voice and tune out excess noise.
During Fortune’s Most Powerful Women virtual summit, the duchess shared a favorite quote that has helped her navigate gossip and criticism. “There are always going to be naysayers,” the Duchess of Sussex said. “But at the end of the day…you know, I used to have a quote up in my room many, many moons ago and it resonates now perhaps more than ever when you see the vitriol and noise that can be out in the world. It’s by Georgia O’Keefe and it’s, ‘I have already settled it for myself so flattery and criticism go down the same drain and I am quite free.’”
For now, Meghan is focused on her passions and her family. “I think it’s very easy to just live with truth and live with authenticity, and that is how I choose to move through the world,” she said.
