We’re all being told to stay at home to avoid the spread of coronavirus but the good news is, that if you are social distancing, you can go for a walk, taking the proper precautions.
To help, the National Trust is opening up gardens, parklands and grounds to give people access to open space for long walks.
Current advice is that anyone who falls into a vulnerable category (older, pregnant or have an underlying heart condition), must self-isolate, meaning they need to stay at home.
If you are experiencing any symptoms of coronavirus (a cough or high temperature), you cannot leave the house for seven days, if you live alone, or if you live with any other people, the whole household, must stay at home for 14 days. You should not go out, even for a walk.
But everyone else must practice social distancing, which means that although they must avoid contact with anyone displaying symptoms, avoid gatherings with friends and family and avoid gatherings in spaces like pubs, bars, restaurants, cinemas and theatres, they can go outside for a long walk, as long as they stay two-feet away from others.

‘There are simple things you can do that may help, to stay mentally and physically active during this time.’
In response, the National Trust said they would close all houses, shops, cafes and any indoor areas but would work to keep as many outdoor areas open as possible.
The National Trust’s Director-General Hilary McGrady said: ‘The National Trust was founded 125 years ago for the benefit of the entire nation.
‘We want to honour our mission – to enable people and nature to thrive. Over the coming weeks we will do all that we can to keep on providing public benefit through caring for places and giving people access wherever possible.
‘While we will close our indoor areas to help fight the spread of coronavirus, we recognise that people are likely to need access to open space.’
You can find your nearest National Trust site with details about opening, on their website.
