During Monday’s rerun of A Place in the Sun, Channel 4 presenter Ben Hillman was hoping to find couple Gary and Jennifer their dream holiday home in Vera, on the Costa de Almería. The duo who are childhood sweethearts wanted to start a new chapter in their lives by buying a property near the traditional Spanish town. With a budget of £55,000, the couple hoped to find a property that was close to the beach where they could enjoy long walks with their dog. However, just minutes into the programme, viewers became distracted by Ben, who kept rubbing his hands together.
Fans were quick to take to social media to point out Ben’s “annoying” habit.
Terry penned: “What’s with Ben always wringing his hands?”
Lynn replied: “I think he thinks it makes him seem like an extrovert and full of fun.”
While Kezzy said: “He always seems very on edge, never still, nervous laughter etc.”
Fi joked: “An hour of hand wringing from Ben…”
Other viewers seemed to be distracted by the presenter’s “forced laughter”.
“Ben’s fake laughter is making my teeth itch,” Matt tweeted.
Stefan pointed out: “OMFG, not sure I can stand much more of this forced laughter., Beavis Ben, on full throttle.” (sic)
Lynn added: “Ben is stepping up the fake laughter a bit today blimey talk about overkill.”
The first property Ben took the couple to was a one-bed apartment close to the beach.
Ben got off to a good start as Jennifer and Gary seemed to love the fact the property came with two communal swimming pools.
Despite not having their own private garden, the complex did come with lots of outdoor space for the couple’s dog.
After viewing the property, Jennifer and Gary seemed to be impressed after they scored it 10/10.
The second property failed to impress the couple as Gary pointed out it was a bit “small” inside.
However, Ben explained it did have an outdoor terrace and stunning sea views.
After inspecting the property further, Jennifer and Gary ruled out the first property completely and explained the second apartment could be in the running.
The third property was a two-bed apartment, although, Ben failed to impress Jennifer as she explained she just “wasn’t feeling it”.
The fourth holiday home seemed to be a hit with the couple as he was the cheapest property Ben had shown them during the search.
The fifth and final home received mixed reviews from the pair, and while Gary seemed to love the property, Jennifer wasn’t so sure.
When it came to making a decision, Jennifer explained to Ben they were going to put their plans to buy in Vera on hold.
She admitted they wanted to rent an apartment for six weeks in the area they liked to see if they could imagine themselves living there.
A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4.
