Call the Midwife fans fear for Sister Julienne and Dr Turner after tragic train crash

Call the Midwife fans have been left in limbo after much-loved main characters Dr Turner (Stephen McGann) and Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) were involved in a devastating train crash.

In scenes that aired on BBC One on Sunday 13 February, Dr Turner and Sister Julienne were seen boarding a train after attending a conference alongside young nurse Nancy Corrigan (Megan Cusack).

However, as their train travelled from Chelmsford to Liverpool Street, the driver suffered what appeared to be a brain haemorrhage, which led to a fatal crash.

As the train came off of the rails and smashed straight into another oncoming vehicle, the two main characters were caught up in the tragedy.

And it wasn’t good news for Call the Midwife fans, as they watched as Sister Julienne and Dr Turner lay motionless in the carriage rubble after the collision.

Meanwhile, Nancy appeared to have been lucky and suffered minimal injuries as she was in an adjoining carriage.

Now, viewers will have to wait until next week’s finale episode (Sunday 19 February) to see if the Poplar pair pull through.

It’s set to be an agonising wait, as fans took to social media to share their despair that we might have to say goodbye to one of the show’s most popular characters.

Detailing their fears that one or two of the pair might not pull through, one wrote: ‘#CallTheMidwife no no no not Sister Julienne or Dr Turner or anyone.’

Another added: ‘It’s Monday morning and I’m in shock again at this episode from last night. Dr Turner and Sister Julienne better not die.’

A third asked: ‘Anyone else wake up this morning worrying about Dr Turner and Sister Julienne? It’s going to be a long week.’

Others shared their hopes that the pair will miraculously survive the wreckage and go on to make a full recovery.

One wrote: ‘That was traumatic. Just watched last night’s Call the Midwife. Dr Turner and Sister Julienne have to be ok.’

Another said: ‘We must must keep Dr Turner.’ As a third waded in, commenting: ‘Noooo. I can’t, this is not the year for this kind of tragedy. We can’t endure it!!’
