Who killed Nick Brewer in Clickbait?

Clickbait tells the story of a husband and father, Nick Brewer, who gets caught up in a terrifying cybercrime.

He is held captive and is seen featuring in a disturbing video online, which ends up going viral.

In the video, he is forced to hold up a sign that says he killed a woman and he would die if the video reached five million views.

As expected, the video becomes the talk of the town and the views quickly tally up to more than five million.

Lo and behold, investigator Roshan Amir (Phoenix Raei) finds Nick’s lifeless body in a river.

The rest of the episodes walk fans through the possible suspects, and the focus lands on Nick’s wife, Sophie (Betty Gabriel).

She had been having an affair and viewers were led to believe it was her colleague, with whom she had been cheating, who killed Nick.

However, his alibi added up and he was dismissed from the investigation, leaving police back at square one.

They also grew suspicious of Simon Oxley (Daniel Henshall), the brother of a young woman who took her own life.

His sister Sarah (Taylor Ferguson) had been talking to someone she thought had been Nick, but he got the cold shoulder.

When Nick said he no longer wanted to talk to Sarah, she was found dead by her brother.

Later on, it was revealed Simon and his friend had captured Nick and made him write the distressing signs for the viral video.

However, he was not Nick’s killer, as he had actually let Nick run free. He was caught by police and revealed the truth about what happened.

At the end of the series, it was Nick’s son Kai (Jaylin Fletcher) who discovered the real killer.

He headed to the address of the house where some of Nick’s online photos had been sourced, and the house belonged to Nick’s colleague, Dawn Gleed (Becca Lish).

Through a series of flashbacks, viewers learn that Dawn was a very lonely woman, despite being married to husband Ed (Wally Dunn).

As she was helping Nick set up his computer at work, she had access to all of his personal photos.

Nick had also confided in Dawn about his wife cheating on him, so she knew plenty about his backstory.

She created fake profiles on various dating sites using Nick’s photos and struck up relationships with various women.

Dawn was eventually caught out by her husband, and he was not happy about what she had done.

Nick had also figured out Dawn was the only one who knew so much about him, and he went to confront her.

As he went to hurt her, Ed hit Nick over the head with a hammer and he died instantly.

Police eventually tracked the couple down, as they were holding Kai hostage at their countryside trailer.

Dawn asked Ed to confess and hand Kai back to his mother, but Ed was frozen on the spot and did not know what to do.

He let Kai go but as he lunged forward with his gun, he was shot dead by police and Dawn was heartbroken.

After the killer was identified, Nick’s name was cleared and he was given a proper funeral.

Clickbait is streaming on Netflix now.
