CORONATION Street fans have slammed the soap, saying they’re ‘sick of over the top" coronavirus references.
Viewers insist they watch Corrie for "escapism" from the deadly virus that has turned life upside down in 2020.
Some have even threatened to turn off if the talk of washing hands, social-distancing and NHS posters remain.
One said: "I do wish they would ignore the corona virus referencing, for me the Street is 30mins of escapism."
Another gave it the nickname: "Corona Nation Street".
Someone else moaned: "Corrie need to chill with the corona lines."
A viewer admitted: "It stresses me out that they talk about Coronavirus on Coronation Street."
A fan spotted: "Ooh NHS sign in the window there. Can't stop with the Corona mentions."
Another added: "Corona Virus sabotages Coronation Street."
Someone else begged: "Dear Coronation Street. Please don’t put any coronavirus references in the show as none of us need reminding about washing our hands etc. Thank you."
Show boss Iain MacLeod had promised coronavirus wouldn't "dominate" the soap when coronavirus was written into the script.
Iain MacLeod said: "It's the only conversation in my house – but people don't want to see that as the only topic of conversation on screen.
"We will see it reflected in how businesses are run, hand washing and the way people behave but we will still tell dramatic storylines and a dollop of comedy as we don't want to lose what the show is. Our storytelling is business as usual."
