Strictly Come Dancing’s Katie McGlynn found herself in the bottom two on Sunday night, having to prove herself in the dreaded dance-off. Luckily the soap star managed to save her place in the BBC dance competition, however, she’s now objected to some of the criticisms she received from judge Craig Revel Horwood.
Katie and her dance partner Gorka Márquez appeared on Strictly’s spin-off show It Takes Two on Tuesday night.
The pair were interviewed by host Rylan Clark-Neal and quizzed about how they were feeling after being in the bottom two.
Rylan looked back on the criticisms the couple had received from the Strictly judges, highlighting that Craig had given them a low score.
“Craig scored you a four,” Rylan said, with Katie replying: “Yes, he did.”
“Not ideal, but what did you make of the judges’ comments?” Rylan asked.
Katie said: “I always take on board the judges comments because they know what they’re doing.
“Like I’ve always said, I’m not a dancer and I want to be a sponge, I want to learn it all.
“So, I want them to criticise us so that I improve,” the actress explained.
However, she went on to take aim at Craig for his remarks about her performance on Saturday night.
“It was still a little bit harsh,” Katie remarked, airing her frustrations.
But she conceded: “He said I was ‘stompy’ and I am stompy aren’t I?”
Gorka came to his partner’s defence over Craig’s comments, highlighting that Katie had a tough style of dance to take on in week two of the competition.
He said: “Jive for someone who’s never danced is a difficult dance, especially for a female.
“You know, they have those big heels,” the dancer explained.
The pair danced their Jive to Olivia Rodrigo’s hit pop track Good 4 U on Saturday night.
But, they’ll be hoping to make a better impression with the judges next weekend as they take part in Strictly’s Movie Week.
The couple revealed they’ll be dancing an American Smooth themed around the film Cruella.
“I love playing evil people!” Katie exclaimed as she detailed how much she’s enjoying getting into character as Cruella Devil.
Describing the role she said: “She’s a fashionista, she’s very dominant, she’s above everybody else.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6:45 pm on BBC One.
