Emmerdale fans were devastated to see Vinny Ashdale turn to gambling after the death of his father Paul – and predicted a violent twist to the youngster's storyline.
Vinny hasn't been coping since his dad's abuse and subsequent death in the explosive van crash.
After planning the funeral by himself, Vinny finally admitted to mum Mandy Dingle that Paul had been beating him.
And after Vinny found a notebook of Paul's race predictions among his dad's things and placed his first bet, viewers are predicting he might follow in his dad's footsteps in more than one way.
Viewers feared Vinny might get so caught up in gambling that he hurts girlfriend Liv Flaherty.
"Is Vinny going to take it out on Liv when his horse loses?" one fan asked on Twitter.
Another fretted: "This young man is turning into his father. Will he develop the violent streak?"
"Oh don't tell me Vinny is going to turn into Paul!" another groaned.
A fourth viewer said: "Looks like a case of 'like father like son' for Vinny."
Someone else wrote: "You would think after seeing what his dad went through he wouldn't gamble."
As Mandy walked in to find her son Vinny rapt by the race, he insisted that it was "just one bet" and it "came in", as he tried to resolve the Dingles' money worries after Paul left Lydia and Sam in mountains of credit card debt after taking out an account in their name.
Mandy wasn't convinced by Vinny's insistence, telling him: "Before you know it you've cheated, you've stolen, you're in debt!"
"No!" Vinny cried in response. "I know what I'm doing."
A heartbroken Mandy replied: "That's just what your dad used to say."
Later in the episode, Vinny was choking back tears as he said: "I can't believe you think I'm like dad. I didn't enjoy it, if that's what you're thinking. The whole thing made me sick with nerves.
"It was luck, nothing more, I'm not turning into dad," he said.
But viewers aren't convinced – one replied on social media: "It isn't one bet Vinny. You're definitely turning into your dad."
Others branded Vinny's move 'disappointing', with one adding: "Pretty disappointing that Vinny would follow in his dad's footsteps with the gambling. Personally I find it a little silly as he understands how it tore his family apart."
