Fans are anxiously awaiting word ofa second Gilmore Girls revival. While an official confirmation hasyet to come, many believe anow-active Instagram account may mean Netflix will offer fans a secondseason of Gilmore Girls: A Year inthe Life. The first revival endedwith Rory Gilmore telling her mother that she was pregnant, and many fans assumeLoganHuntzberger is the father of that child. Rory’s love life, however, was abit complicated at the time. So, is it possible that her ever-forgettableboyfriend, Paul, actually fathered Rory’s child?
Fans assume Logan is the father of Rory’s baby
A central story arc throughoutthe revival is Rory’srelationship with Logan. The pair, who appear to be star-crossed lovers,can’t manage to stay away from each other, even though they are in relationshipswith other people. Logan is engaged, seemingly reluctantly, to an heiress bythe name of Odette, while Rory is in a weird relationship with a man namedPaul. Logan is on track to fulfill his family’s dynastic plan, while Rory isrootless. Both seem emotionally pained by their paths, but neither seems particularlyinclined to fix it.
Rory and Logan’s final meeting appearsto make it clear that Logan is the father of Rory’s child. After all, she wakesup in his bedroom in a New Hampshire bed and breakfast after a wild night withthe Life and Death Brigade. Fans can safely assume the duo slept together thatnight, as a final goodbye. Rory’s visit to her father, ChristopherHayden, also hints at the paternity of her child. She asks Christopher whyhe allowed Lorelai to raise her alone. If Logan is supposed to be Rory’sChristopher, the pregnancy would bring the story full-circle, which is preciselywhat Amy Sherman-Palladino planned.
But wait, couldn’t it still bePaul’s child?
Rory and Paul didn’t exactly havea steamy relationship. Rory could barely remember the poor guy, but he wasstill in the picture during the “Fall” episode. Fans do find out that Paul and Roryhad been dating for two years in the “Winter” episode. While their paths don’tseem to cross particularly often, they do cross occasionally enough to maintainthe relationship, at least on some level.
Let’s assume Rory and Paul werestill getting together sometimes and sleeping together when they did manage tofind themselves in the same space. If Paul waited until the fall to finallycall it quits with Rory, we could assume that they hooked up at least onceduring the season. In theory, he may be the father of Rory’sbaby.
Jack Carpenter doesn’t think itis likely, though
Jack Carpenter, the actor whoportrayed Paul in the revival, sat down with TheHollywood Reporter shortly after the revival aired to discuss theseries. When questioned about the likelihood of Paul being the father of Rory’sbaby, he was incredulous.
Carpenter noted that he doubtedPaul would play such a large role in asecond revival. His character was intended to be forgettable, and if Rory’slife is supposed to mimic her mother’s, the father of her child wouldcomplicate her life. Paul wasn’t a complicating factor for Rory. The entirerevival showed that Paul wasn’t a factor in Rory’s life at all.
