Inside Emmerdales Lisa Dingle actress Jane Coxs life after leaving ITV soap

Emmerdale: Belle chats to Zak about Tom

It’s been exactly four years since one of Emmerdale’s most iconic characters, Lisa Dingle, last appeared on screen.

Actress Jane Cox, who played the matriarch of the Dingle clan, starred in the ITV soap for over two decades.

But what has she been up to since leaving Emmerdale?

Express.co.uk have taken a look back at her departure from the show, as well as checking in to see what she is up to now.

Jane originally took a sabbatical from the ITV soap back in 2018, with her returning the following year when her character was diagnosed with the rare and serious disease amyloidosis. A year later, in May 2019, Lisa died.

While she did reprise her role in the form of some voice cameos in October and November 2020, when her daughter Belle Dingle, played by Eden Taylor-Draper, struggled with her mental health, Jane was ready to “do different things”.

Why did Jane Cox leave Emmerdale as Lisa Dingle?

Jane said of her decision to leave the ITV soap: “It is long, long days and then you don’t have time in the evenings because you have lines to learn for the next day.

“My mum died a couple of years ago, so it does make you think a lot about the big things in life.”

The soap didn’t leave the door open for Jane to return with Lisa’s death making her exit final.

What is Jane Cox doing now?

Over the past 10 years Jane has studied for an art history degree and tried writing a book.

But since officially leaving the Dales, the actress has taken up the alternative health therapy of reflexology.

In 2019 Jane spoke to Inside Soap about the change in career: “Well, I wanted to slow down a bit, and I’m currently doing a course in reflexology.

“I’m available for acting roles, but at the moment I’m just chilling – which is a luxury for me.”

She won’t, however, be appearing in any reality TV shows anytime soon.

She told Digital Spy: “No, I wouldn’t do that. I’ve got my own private life, I’m an actor more. I don’t consider myself to be a celebrity in that way.”

It’s safe to say that fans won’t see Jane appear in the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom or in the Australian jungle on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in the future.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
