Joe Swash's sister Shana reveals 'normal job' after scandalous EastEnders role

Shana Swash first appeared on our screens as Demi Miller in EastEnders, alongside real life brother Joe Swash.

The actress was involved in a hugely controversial storyline that saw Demi give birth at just 13 years old.

The character drew the attention of Albert Square locals when she arrived with her family in 2004, due to her pregnancy.

Now though, Shana has taken her career in a different direction, having started her own business, opening a pop-up coffee shop in North London.

‘I really fell in love with coffee and lockdown gave me the push to get out of my comfort zone and start my own business.’ She told The Sun.

‘Honestly, I’ve loved every minute of it. There’s only me, I run it full-time on a day-to-day basis and am your local barista in a park near to where I grew up.

‘It’s allowed me to meet loads of people, like the really die-hard EastEnders fans, and become friends with them too.’

Shana spent two years on Albert Square as part of the Miller family, but was written out of the show in 2006 when Demi left to live in the Cotswolds with her mum.

Since then, she has continued acting, appearing in shows such as Doctors and Top Boy.

She has also appeared in independent films, and earned herself a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the British Independent Film Awards for her role in My Feral Heart.

While her next project, an independent film called Love Without Walls, is set to come out later this year, Shana also has plans to continue expanding her business.

‘I’ve only been open for a year-and-a-half but I want to expand,’ she says.

‘I’d love us to be a brand that people recognise so watch this space. Hopefully we’ll be taking over… Starbucks who?’
