The Line of Duty rumour mill has gone into overdrive once more as This Morning viewers are convinced Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have dropped a huge clue about H's identity.

In Tuesday's show, hosts Holly and Phil trailed that they had a "very exciting guest" lined up for Monday's This Morning which will air the morning after Line of Duty's series six finale.

Phil carefully announced: "We have, all I'm allowed to say is, on Monday's show a very exciting guest pertaining to that show.

"I'm treading the line of what we were told we were allowed to say this morning and I think I've gone right down the middle."

Holly said: "I'm glad you're saying this not me, because I definitely would have messed up."

Many of their viewers assumed that they would be interviewing the mysterious H – an anonymous character leading police corruption with the organised crime group – and began to speculate about who it could be.

One viewer tweeted: "So H can't be Carmichael because she was on yesterday and why would they have her on a week before if they were having her next week after the reveal @thismorning."

DCS Patricia Carmichael is played by Anna Maxwell Martin, who was a guest on This Morning yesterday when she shrugged off a fan theory that her character had tapped out the Morse code for "H" in an interview scene, claiming she was just bored during filming.

Another person tweeted: "I don't watch #LineofDuty but going by what was just said, they'll be having the woman who is "H" on the show next Monday."

Viewers began to wonder whether the pair had some inside information on H, especially as they thought they heard Holly refer to the guest as "her".

One tweeted: "Holly said “her” So H is either Kate, Carmichael, Jo Davidson or Chloe."

Someone else added: "Does this mean holly and Phil know who H is in line of duty and holly just said find HER #thismorning."

However, others wondered whether the mystery guest would turn out to be James Nesbitt who has so far appeared as bent ex-copper Marcus Thurwell in a series of photos and in Spanish police footage that apparently showed his body being discovered.

Some fans have speculated that Thurwell is not really dead and that Nesbitt will turn out to have a bigger Line of Duty role.

One This Morning viewer tweeted: "James Nesbitt aka Marcus Thurwell on Mondays show then!"

Line of Duty's series six finale will air on Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
