Ali Neeson (James Burrows) has been through quite a lot since he showed up on the cobbles in Coronation Street two years ago, but his feud with Gary Windass (Mikey North) reaches boiling point once more in the coming episodes, something which ultimately prompts him to leave the street — and Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) — in the past.
With the animosity between he and Ali at an all-time high, Gary decides to take matters into his own hands as — after Sharon stops by the furniture shop to pick up Rick’s old client list — he asks her to teach Ali a lesson.
Later, Ali suddenly collapses during a wellness check-up with Craig (Colson Smith), and both Toyah (Georgia Taylor) and Dr Gaddas rush to check on him — which prompts Toyah to reveal that the doc may have taken an overdose of diazepam.
Ali is later loaded into the ambulance — much to Gary and Maria’s horror — and thus Gary contacts Sharon, informing her that she’s to blame if anything happens to Ali.
Ali later regains consciousness, but — after learning what caused him to collapsed — he swears that he never took any diazepam, but Ryan (Ryan Preston) isn’t convinced.
The doctor comes to believe that Gary was responsible for what transpired, but Ryan refuses to believe such a thing, as he believes his brother to simply be in denial. Determined to prove that Gary’s the one to blame, Ali sets off in search of clues, and — later — Maria enters Ali’s car and quizzes him about the overdose.
Ali locks Maria in the vehicle — much to her dismay — as he reveals that he suspects Gary of having spiked his drink. With Maria unable to get the door open, Ali starts the car — prompting the hairdresser to plead with him to stop.
However, Ali continues to drive the car erratically, but eventually he lets Maria out and — as she returns home — she huge Gary and informs him about what happened, revealing that Ali suspects him of having spiked his drink.
As per usual, Gary manages to convince Maria that there’s no truth to Ali’s claims, as the doctor reveals to Ryan that he’s unhappy in life right now. As a result, he decides that moving away is the only option, as he can no longer sit by and watch Maria throw her life away on Gary.
The former lovers clear the air, and — after an emotional farewell with Ryan — Ali leaves the cobbles.
Is this the last we’ve seen of him?
