Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) have both met some unsavoury characters in their time – but the Emmerdale bad boys are set to more than meet their match when corrupt DI Malone (Mark Womack) arrives in the village and instantly shows a sinister side.
Tonight, Will is being interviewed by police about the gun and when Malone enters the room, it’s clear that he and Will have a history and Will is scared of him. As Malone makes some demands, Will is going to be forced to reluctantly return to a life of crime – but just how dangerous is Malone?
Newcomer Mark smiled: ‘He’s very Machiavellian. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Even though he is a policeman, he behaves in much the same way as the criminals he is after.
‘I think he’s been crooked for a long time. It’s as if he has used his status to pursue criminal activities. Perhaps at one time he wasn’t crooked so there has probably been something that’s happened in his past that’s changed him.
‘He’s very dastardly – you wouldn’t want to lock horns with him!’
Even Cain, who is used to handling dangerous people and getting the upper hand, is set to be intimidated by his new enemy – and for good reason.
‘He’s more than a match for Cain!’ Mark said. ‘He’s extremely confident he’ll get what he wants. He believes he can get his own way no matter what anyone else thinks.’
And Mark warned that other characters – such as Harriet, Billy and Dawn – would feel the brutal force of DI Malone. But the star, who is husband to EastEnders Ronnie Mitchell star Sam, is having a ball on set and loving working with his new co-stars.
He enthused: ‘They’re both terrific actors. I’m lucky to have fallen into a storyline that involves their characters – they’re both looking after me!’
Emmerdale continues on Thursday 5 March at 7pm and 8pm on ITV.
