What happened to Dominique in The Serpent?
Dominique was a young french traveller when he met Alain in Thailand.
At the time, Sobhraj was going by the name Alain Gautier and his wife Marie-Andrée Leclerc (Jenna Coleman) by Monique.
In The Serpent, Dominque and Alain are portrayed as meeting in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Dominque was then drugged by Alain and taken back to his apartment in Bangkok, Thailand.
Alain instructed Monique to “keep Dominique sick” so he would “do anything” for them.
At the time, the real Dominique believed he was suffering from dysentery and was even given an apartment by Alain but in reality, he was being held captive.
After a few weeks, Dominique began to notice several travellers would attend parties at Alain and Monique’s and never return.
He also began to suspect he had been drugged by Alain and many of the other travellers.
In The Serpent, Dominique witnessed lifeless bodies being dragged from the apartment building and eventually matched the passports found in Alain’s safe to deceased travellers.
He also noticed many items in the apartment belonged to missing travellers.
During Monique, Alain and Ajay Chowdhury’s (Amesh Edireweera) Christmas trip to Nepal, Dominique was able to enlist the help of neighbours Nadine (Mathilde Warner) and Remi Gires (Grégoire Isvarine) who helped him escape.
Nadine and Remi purchased him an aeroplane ticket and helped him to reconstruct his own passport, which had been used illegally by Alain.
Thankfully, Dominique was able to escape the clutches of Alain and a safe return to France.
Whether these exact events happened in real life remains unknown as the series is a dramatisation of true events and all dialogue is imagined.
Nevertheless, Dominique Rennelleau was unfortunate to meet Sobhraj and lucky to return to France alive.
The last viewers see of Dominique, he was crying in his parents’ arms when he arrived safely in France.
He also wrote a letter to Nadine and Remi, thanking them for their help and fulfilling his promise to pay them back for the plane ticket they purchased him.

He is married with grown-up children and remains a keen traveller.
