WARNING SPOILERS FOR THE SUICIDE SQUAD AHEAD. James Gunn’s take on the DC supervillains task force has hit UK cinemas today. And it turns out The Suicide Squad has two rather surprising end credits scenes.

The first end credits scene takes place right after The Suicide Squad ends and sees Sean Gunn’s Weasel waking up on the beach from the movie’s opening.

The blockbuster began by slaughtering a number of characters from the off, including Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang.

While also seemingly included was Weasel, who appeared to have drowned after the helicopter drop since he can’t swim.

Michael Rooker’s Savant, who also got knocked off a few moments later, tried to save the creature but reported back to Amanda Waller that he’d drowned.

However, this first end credits scene showed that Weasel had survived before he runs off into the island.

Aside from this humorous aside, it’s the post-credits scene that’s particularly interesting.

Waller’s team find John Cena’s Peacemaker alive in hospital, having survived being shot by Bloodsport earlier in the movie.

No doubt this scene was teasing the upcoming Peacemaker TV series, starring the wrestler-turned-actor that will debut on HBO Max in January 2022.

A UK release date is yet to be announced, although Warner Bros usually stream their DC content on NOW.

Gunn himself has penned eight episodes of the show that will look at the origins of Peacemaker.

The filmmaker will also direct several episodes of the action-adventure comedy about the man who believes he must bring about peace no matter how many men, women and children he has to kill.

Upon the TV show’s announcement last year, Gunn told Variety: “Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag.”

Gunn added: “I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series.

“And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”

While Cena said: “I have said before that it has been a tremendous honour and an incredible opportunity to be part of The Suicide Squad and to work with James on what is going to be a fantastic movie.

“I am unbelievably excited to have the chance to team up with him again for Peacemaker. We can’t wait for fans to see this.”

The Suicide Squad is in UK cinemas now and hits US theatres on August 5, 2021.
