The uncertainty amid the coronavirus pandemic has caused many television series to put their production on hold. With Vikings not set to return to the History channel until winter, fans are preparing for another long hiatus ahead.
Even under normal circumstances, fans have been concerned about the potential outcome of the thrilling historical epic.
Set within the semi-mythical age of Vikings, the series traces the dynasty of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), a Viking king who is later succeeded by his son, Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig).
When viewers last left the historical drama, Bjorn had been dealt a fatal blow following the raid of Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh Andersen) and his vicious Rus forces.
With only ten episodes to go, fans have been worried about the immense thread of character arcs that have to wrap up in a very limited space of time.
- Vikings season 6, episode 11 release date: When does Vikings return?
Some have taken to Reddit to discuss their concerns for the future of Vikings.
Reddit user Arben92 posted: “What do you guys think that the showrunners are going to do with Oleg’s (Danila Kozlovsky) brother supporting Ivar?
“I mean, if it was so important, how are they going to develop it if there are only 10 episodes left and in the promo they show other storylines and this one never gets mentioned?”
Oleg’s brother Dir (Lenn Kudrjawizki) was in a bitter rivalry with his brother, but when he is kept prisoner by the Prophet, Dir offers everything he has in exchange for his freedom.
Unfortunately, some fans have taken a look at what’s promised to come in the upcoming season, and are suspicious that some characters could meet a quick and bloody end as the final instalment wraps up.
One fan commented: “I imagine he’s probably dead and everyone else has been planted by Oleg to make Ivar think he has an ally.”
It would be disappointing if Dir was killed so quickly, but sometimes longrunning series have to take desperate measures to deliver a satisfying conclusion.
Another fan added fuel to the fire and added: “The first five episodes of 6b will be focused mainly on Ivar vs Oleg, that’s what I’m expecting.”

They then continued to point out some juicy behind the scenes knowledge that could indicate a grisly fate for Oleg.
The comment continued: “There are BTS photos of Ivar, Hvitserk and Katya outside the walls of Kiev with Oleg’s brother, Dir’s troops. It’s basically everyone vs Oleg.”
The sadistic Viking prince teamed with Ivar and the Rus to storm Kattegat, but as his forces were overwhelmed and defeated he could be meeting with a bloody end before the series finale.
Throughout promotional material for the upcoming season, the question of Bjorn’s fate has been left ambiguous, with some thinking he could survive the blow and make a surprise return.

Additionally, fan favourite Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) has yet to make his rumoured return, and Ubbe’s (Jordan Patrick Smith) Icelandic adventures are still far from over.
With so many threads to wrap up, fans have their fingers crossed the series’ final season still delivers an emotional punch.
No announcements have been made about Vikings’ production, so the release date for season six’s final ten episodes are still hoped to be released later this year.
Vikings season 6 is streaming on Amazon Prime now.
